Metalcraft Flood - One Year Later

June 8, 2009 represented a significant milestone for Metalcraft. It marked the one year anniversary of the historic Midwestern floods that impacted (and continues to impact) the lives of residents from many Midwestern states including Iowa which is where Metalcraft is located.

This was no minor flood either as indicated by the photos. For example, contrary to what the picture shows Metalcraft is not located next to a lake – that is actually the side our building and that is as close to it as we could get after being evacuated. The water did get even higher than this picture indicates.

The other image show the aftermath of the flood and the destruction it left behind – lost equipment, lost supplies, etc. – stuff that literally took months to clean up and dispose of.

So how did we commemorate this anniversary? By celebrating with root beer floats of course! Why? Many companies faced with this type of natural disaster take days, weeks, even months to get back to business – but not us. Even with no working phones and no Internet service for almost two days plus no running water for almost five days we were still able to ship 96% of our orders that week on time while many of the manufacturing plants in the area remained closed. Now that’s something worth celebrating.
