A Re-Cap of the UID Forum in Orlando

Recently, we were happy to attend the 16th annual UID Forum, held this year in beautiful Orlando, Florida. Moderated by prominent members of the armed services and the DoD, people such as Randy Koram of the U.S. Air Force, Brigadier General William K. Faulkner of the Joint Staff, and Lora Conrad (of the Office of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense), the meeting has long been considered the premier annual event as far as developing asset tracking technology for the American military. Everything from M1-A2 Abrams main battle tanks; to Humvees and transport trucks; down to the night-vision goggles worn by night-raiders in Afghanistan; all of these technologies are costly enough that there is sufficient pressure to keep track of their whereabouts. With Metalcraft’s wear-resistant, photo anodized line of custom barcodes, as well as our highly competitive Five-Point Promise, we knew we’d capture defense contractors’ attention with our tech and services.

The conference couldn’t have been more informative. We heard presentations from experts on the tactical need for IUID, better means of “visibility” for equipment being tracked and tagged, and the ins and outs of doing business with the DoD. Of course, it wasn’t all lecterns and presentations. There were “stretch breaks” and informal networking opportunities galore at the Pulse Bar on the atrium level of the convention center. We’ve come away from the UID Forum with a clearer sense that there is ample space at the table for a company like ours, which provides fast-moving, quick-thinking, hard-working solutions for defense asset tracking. By choosing to commit heavily to UID bar coding, and with DoD asset tracking becoming more mission critical than ever, we find ourselves poised at the right historical moment. The opportunity is ripe; the UID business is only growing. We’re here to help usher in the boom.
