Before we got involved in RFID and UID technologies, we were a company devoted almost exclusively to the art of designing and making metal nameplates, pure and simple, and we did it well. But time and innovation wouldn’t allow for us to rest on our founding credentials. Around 1992, other opportunities emerged with different materials – opening the door for our roll label product line. Made from materials that were then new to our company, materials such as polyester, polypropylene and polycarbonate as well as destructible and tamper-evident materials, we realized there was a burgeoning need for companies to keep track of their individual assets as precisely as possible in a standardized fashion. Thus was born what eventually became a very important part of our business – fabricating and printing out rolls of customized, state-of-the-art asset tags and labels.
This new shift in direction cued us onto what was then considered (back in the ancient, ancient days of 2000) to be an emerging technology – RFID tracking. An item that utilized radio frequency to keep its owner aware of its pinpoint location was, we reasoned, a guaranteed game-changer. We weren’t about to get caught unprepared for the future of our own business.
Making the decision to produce RFID tags for asset tracking proved, as was predicted, to be the right choice. Today RFID asset tracking is sweeping the planet, making inroads into industries ranging from commercial clothing to individual aerospace components. The fact of the matter is people have trillions of dollars invested in physical property, and quite naturally want the best means of protecting it. With Metalcraft’s RFID and barcode labels to help out, they’re well on their way to achieving just that.
It’s just something we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge here at our company: the 20th anniversary celebration of our making one of the best possible business decision we could have made.
